Desert Ridge Marketplace's New Restaurants Didn't Open in the Order Anyone Promised

Back in the fall of 2025, Desert Ridge Marketplace put out a press release with four names on it: Nadu, Kajiken, Terra Gaucha, and a cocktail lounge called Globe in the Dark. The framing was tidy. Four concepts, one dining lineup, arriving in sequence over the next twelve months. If you bookmarked that release and planned your year around it, you'd have shown up at the wrong door more than once.

Here's what actually happened. The restaurant slated to open first, Nadu, opened last among the pair that's actually open. The one originally penciled in for "before the end of the year" beat it to the punch by months. The cocktail lounge that was supposed to be sipping-ready by early 2026 only opened its doors this September. And the steakhouse everyone expected by summer 2026 now has a spring 2027 date attached to it, more than a year past the original estimate.

None of this is a knock on Desert Ridge Marketplace. Retail buildouts run on their own clock, and a 1.2 million-square-foot center with more than 100 tenants is going to have some slippage. What it does mean is that if you live near Tatum and the 101 and you've been waiting to try the new ramen spot or book a table for a group dinner, the calendar you're working from is probably outdated. Here's where things actually stand.

What's Actually On the Table Right Now

Two of the four are open and taking reservations today.

Kajiken quietly opened at the start of the year, well ahead of where most of the original coverage placed it. It's the first Arizona location for the Nagoya, Japan concept, known for abura soba, a thick-noodle ramen served without broth and tossed in a proprietary sauce instead. The space is compact at 1,720 square feet, built around a fast, customizable bowl format rather than a sit-and-linger dinner. If you're looking for a quick weeknight stop that isn't another chain, this is the one that's been quietly running for months while people were still waiting for a grand opening announcement.

Nadu came next, opening in July, roughly five months later than the February date attached to its original announcement. This one carries more weight than a typical mall restaurant addition. It's the second location from chef Sujan Sarkar, whose original concept earned a spot in the 2025 Michelin Guide, rebranded from Feringhee Modern Indian Cuisine. The menu leans into India's regional variety rather than a single style, in a 4,024-square-foot space built for a slower, more composed meal than what you'd expect from a shopping center tenant. If you've driven past the space and seen it dark for most of the year, it's open now.

The Lounge That Finally Showed Up This Month

Globe in the Dark was supposed to be pouring cocktails by early 2026. Instead, it's opening this September, about seven or eight months behind schedule. The concept itself is worth the wait if you're the type who plans a night around a drink menu rather than a dinner reservation. It's an 800-square-foot after-hours lounge built around a passport-style loyalty card, where every internationally themed cocktail you order gets stamped like a border crossing, paired with happy hour offerings the marketplace has branded "Business Class Boarding."

It's a small footprint and a narrow concept, which is worth noting against what came before it. The two spaces that opened fastest, Kajiken and Nadu, are both under 4,100 square feet. Globe in the Dark, at 800 square feet, is the smallest of the four and still took the longest to open of the two that have launched. Size alone doesn't explain the delay here. What it does set up, though, is a pattern worth watching with the fourth concept.

The One That Got Pushed a Full Year

Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse was announced alongside the other three with a summer 2026 target. It now has a spring 2027 date attached to it, a slip of well over a year from the original estimate. The build is also the largest of the four by a wide margin, a 7,669-square-foot space designed for a full churrasco experience with tableside carving and a hot and cold table of sides. That's a build closer to a standalone restaurant than a mall tenant improvement, and the timeline reflects it.

Desert Ridge Marketplace's marketing director, Leann Meagher, described the broader push behind these additions as an effort to make the center a one-stop destination. In her words, the goal is that "people will say, 'Oh, everything I need is at Desert Ridge Marketplace,'" so they can shop and eat without leaving. It's a fair pitch for the two concepts that are actually seating guests. For the steakhouse, it's still a rendering and a sign.

The dining changes aren't happening in isolation, either. A Gap Factory location is set to open this September as part of the same broader wave of tenant turnover at the center, a reminder that the marketplace is mid-refresh across both retail and food right now, not just running one restaurant announcement at a time.

Where the New Sits Next to the Familiar

None of this displaces what's already there. Desert Ridge Marketplace's established roster, Marino's Italian Kitchen & Bar, Backyard, Barrio Queen, Kona Grill, Dave & Buster's, Yard House, Jin Jia, and BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, is still the backbone of most weeknight and weekend traffic through the center. The four newer names are additions to that mix, not replacements for it, and for now only two of them are actually part of the rotation.

If you're mapping out where to eat this month, that's the practical takeaway. Kajiken and Nadu are open and bookable now. Globe in the Dark just opened this September, so it's worth checking current hours before you drive over expecting a full menu on night one. Terra Gaucha is still more than a year out, so hold off on planning that group dinner around it until closer to spring 2027.

Desert Ridge Marketplace posts current hours and reservation links for its restaurants directly on its own site, which is the better source to check before heading over than whatever announcement you bookmarked last fall. Foothills Focus has the most current rundown of what's open and what's still pending, including the Gap Factory timeline and Meagher's comments.

North Phoenix keeps getting compared to Scottsdale's dining scene, but Desert Ridge is carving out its own identity here, one that's less about a single flashy opening and more about a shopping center that's slowly, unevenly, becoming a genuine destination. It's just taking longer than the press release said it would.
